Perhaps you have heard the saying, "It's not the amount of years in one's life which matter but the amount of life in one's years." Certainly that statement holds true for our Senior Adult Pastor, Hank Wilson. Originally from Kansas, Hank enlisted in the military at a young age and eventually served our country on many fronts during World War II. From the European Theater of Operations to beachhead landings in France, the qualities of devotion and bravery have been proven in his life. Awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and eight other medals, Hank's dedication to his country is without debate.
In 1946, he married Gerry, a hometown girl, and together they have two children. Their daughter, Carola, lives in Savannah and holds a Masters in Nursing degree and their son, Seth, lives in Virginia and works as an engineer specializing in hospital construction. Hank went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and later retired in 1980.
Serving for many years at First Baptist Church of the Islands, Hank is both well-respected and well-loved for his humility and sincere devotion to the Lord. He accepted Christ as His Lord and Savior at the age of thirteen and still today continues in his Christian service. He and Gerry have a heart for our Senior Adult ministry and are continually striving for ways to be of service to this important part of our church family. Understanding that the later years of one's life can often be the most productive for Christ, Hank is proving that to be true through his own service but is also leading others to understand it, as well. First Baptist Church of the Islands is stronger because of the ministry of our Senior Adult Pastor, Hank Wilson, and because of the service of our wonderful Seniors!
