At First Baptist Church of the Islands, we have summarized the mission of our church into four simple words: Know, Grow, Show, and Go.
First, we seek to lead people to KNOW Jesus Christ in a personal relationship which is authentic and vibrant. This relationship comes through repentance (a turning from sin) and faith in Christ as Savior and Lord. Our primary means by which we lead others to know Christ is through our weekly worship services each Sunday and as we share Christ personally with those around us.
Second, we seek to lead people to GROW in Christ once they have come to know Him personally. God’s desire is that we be conformed into the image of Christ so that we might know Him deeply and that others may see Him reflected in every area of our lives. Our primary means by which we lead others to grow in Christ is through our Sunday School Ministry on Sunday mornings and our DIVE Ministry on Sunday evenings.
Third, we seek to lead people to SHOW Christ through lives of service to God and others. God has placed us here to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-14) in the world. To know Him and grow in Him is only the beginning, so we desire to lead others into the exciting stage of showing Christ consistently through service. Our primary means by which we lead others to show Christ is through the many opportunities to serve in a variety of ministries in our church. Also, we encourage each person to show Christ outside the four walls of our church as we serve those around us consistently, as well.
Fourth, we seek to lead people to GO WITH THE GOSPEL and to tell others how they might come to know Christ personally themselves. Our primary means by which we lead others to go with the Gospel is through periodic mission trips and by equipping Christians to share the Gospel with the people whom God places in their paths. Our typical spheres of influence are family members, neighbors, co-workers/classmates, and strangers. As we recognize our call to go with the Gospel to people in these areas of our lives, we will see God begin His work consistently in the lives of those around us that they might know, grow, show, and go also! |
